House deputy speaker criticizes SBY’s 12 instructions

House of Representatives deputy speaker Anis Matta says he doubts the President’s 12 instructions will help settle the case of graft defendant Gayus Tambunan.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono issued the 12 instructions at a Cabinet meeting on Monday. One of the instructions is for related institutions to speed up their investigations and improve synergy. Yudhoyono also ordered Vice President Boediono and the Judicial Mafia Taskforce to monitor the implementation of the instructions.

“I see this as a kind of tendency. They show off when they hold meetings, making it look like they work, but they produce nothing. We can not expect much from them,” Anis said Tuesday, as quoted by metrotvnews.com.

Anis added that the monitoring by the Vice President and the taskforce showed instead how weak the government was in dealing with the antics of Gayus, a former taxman.

“We can not expect much to change with the case being handed over to the Vice President,” Anis said.

He added that he hoped the government would take this case more seriously, given that the public were growing more dissatisfied that it remained unresolved.
