Vietnamese man to stand trial for drug smuggling

Vietnamese man is scheduled to stand trial at Yogyakarta District Court on Tuesday for his alleged attempt to smuggle crystal methamphetamine (shabu-shabu) into Indonesia.

Police have completed the dossier of Nguyen Thi My Nanh, 22, and handed it to prosecutors for further legal processing, Yogyakarta Police narcotics division director Com. Sr. Wijanarko said Tuesday.

The suspect was arrested on Dec. 3 by customs officials at Yogyakarta airport, who found him in possession of 1.036 kg of the drug hidden in his shoes, kompas.com reported Tuesday.

Wijanarko said the Vietnamese Embassy in Jakarta had hired a Vietnamese graduate student to act as an interpreter as the suspect could not speak English or Mandarin.
