Ex-Czech president Havel wants to visit RI

A- A A+

At a recent honorary meeting in Prague between Indonesian Ambassador to the Czech Republic Emeria Siregar and renowned Czech reform icon and former president Vaclav Havel, the latter expressed an interest in visiting Indonesia.

The meeting was organized among efforts to improve bilateral cooperation between both nations, as such occasions provide opportunities to introduce the “new and reformed” Indonesia to the Czech political elite, the embassy’s political advisor, Azis Nurwahyudi, said Tuesday as quoted by Antara

Another issue on the agenda was to introduce and improve awareness of Indonesian culture within the Czech Republic, Aziz said.

Emeria Siregar took the opportunity to ask Vaclav Havel — also a legendary cultural icon within the Czech Republic — if he would be willing to visit Indonesia, an invitation he enthusiastically agreed to, Azis added.

The Czech Republic and Indonesia share several common political issues and goals, as both nations are fledgling democracies that experienced a dramatic reformation within their political sphere — the Velvet Revolution in 1989 and the fall of Soeharto in 1998.
