PPP wants more House meetings on Century

The United Development Party (PPP) says it wants the House of Representatives’ Bank Century supervisory team to assert itself and increase the number of meetings to discuss the progress of investigations into the bank bailout case.
PPP deputy secretary-general M. Romahurmuzy said Thursday it was unclear who among the House leadership was responsible for coordinating the supervisory team.
“The top position at the supervisory team is currently shared collectively among several House leaders. Because all of them are technically responsible, it’s not clear who is actually responsible for guiding the team so that it can focus on the [Bank Century] investigation.
“The best option would be to choose a House leader with experience in legal issues [to lead the team],” Romahurmuzy said.
The team needs to have more meetings to ensure that the investigations by the government and law enforcement institutions are progressing and will conclude before the deadline at the end of 2011, he said.
Romahurmuzy said since its establishment by a plenary House session mandate in March 2010, the team had met 30 times.
“That is three times a month. They should be meeting every week so that we know law enforcers are taking the case seriously.”
