Crop circles that appeared in Jogotirto, Berbah, Sleman, Yogyakarta, on Sunday have given rise to a plethora of unanswered questions, baffling scientists and observers alike.
While some observers say the circles were manmade or caused by natural events, scientists remain unable to explain them. UFO enthusiasts, meanwhile, believe such phenomena are concrete evidence of the existence of extraterrestrial beings.
“This particular crop circle is fascinating because of its striking resemblance to the muladhara chakra — one of the basic chakras in Tantric Hinduism,” Betaufo community UFO observer Julius Perdana said as quoted by kompas.com.
The former head of the Bosscha Observatorium, Moedji Raharto, said, “If this really is the work of a UFO or extraterrestrial beings, it is almost 100 percent certain they would have left some sort of trace behind. It is highly improbable such beings could cover such distances without bringing along some sort of provisions.
Such traces could be used as a starting point in an investigation of the circles, Moedji said.
“The chemical composition of the soil itself could reveal the origin of the phenomenon. For example, when a meteorite enters the atmosphere and forms a crater, it leaves traces of elements that are not common to the area — some are even unidentifiable. If this crop circle was an extraterrestrial event, we can expect to see similar results in a soil analysis”, Moedji said.
