The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Monday re-questioned four politicians
who allegedly received bribes in the election of the Bank Indonesia senior
deputy governor, at the House of Representatives in 2004.
The four politicians who were being investigated were Ni Luh Mariani
Tirtasari, Soewarno, Matheos Formes and Soetanto Pranoto, all members of House
Commission III between 2004 and 2009, from the Indonesian Democratic Party of
Struggle (PDI-P).
KPK spokesperson Johan Budi said the investigation was 80 percent complete,
and the indictment would follow soon.
Johan did not say who had paid the bribes.
Petrus Selestinus, the attorney for the four, questioned who had paid the
bribes.
"So far there has been no significant progress. The committee has
failed to investigate who was paying the bribes," he said.
Previously Nunun Nurbaety was alleged to have played this role, but the
commission has failed to bring her to court after she said she was suffering
from extreme memory loss.
Petrus also denied that his clients had
received bribes in the form of traveler checks, to elect Miranda Goeltom as the
BI senior deputy governor, saying the checks were connected to presidential
election campaign funds.
