Text your say: And justice for all

A- A A+

Your comments on the seven-year prison sentence for high-profile convict Gayus H Tambunan on charges connected to corruption, bribery and lying about his assets.

Just seven years in prison? Indonesia is really embarrassing.  I bet if corruptors are sentenced to death, government offices would be empty. So embarrassing!

And justice for all: The law is dead in this country.

Well, he will spend up to seven years in the Indonesia Hilton.

The first episode of the serial drama, titled Gayus H Tambunan and the tax mafia has ended tragically. In this episode, Gayus, the leading actor was very charming. He was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment.

I am very sad to hear this verdict. Such a light sentence?

However, I’m looking forward to watching the coming episodes of this serial, for Gayus has “sung” unmelodious songs of other tax mafia cases.

Besides, he has transgressed against the immigration bill. Through his singing we can hope that all the tax mafia players will be imprisoned, the serial drama will end for good and Gayus will obtain enlightenment during his imprisonment.

What an absolute joke the justice system is in Indonesia. Money rules this country. And yes, this sentence is the end of it. The big players will get away as usual, untouchable.

Yes, the verdict surprised everyone because Gayus was only punished with seven years in prison and fined Rp 300 million (US$33,000), although the prosecutors sought 20 years imprisonment and a Rp 500 million fine.

Severe punishment for Gayus is surely needed to deter others from doing the same crime.
The police should continue their investigation of tax mafia cases at the Tax Directorate General, which involve big enterprises and high-ranking officials in the institution.

The government needs to improve the work procedure standards and control system from the lowest to the highest levels of officials in the institution so that any wrong doing can be immediately investigated.

Seven years with a deal to open up the judiciary and tax mafia? I think it’s a sweet deal for Gayus H Tambunan.

It is too light for him. The sense of justice must be maintained in this country. Just take a look at Ariel. He is facing five years.

Gayus must return the funds that he stole while he was in office, not only Rp 300 million.

He deserves more than that. What he did was totally against the law.

Well, it’s been clear for a long time that the law in Indonesia isn’t that fair. After all, money wins every time.

After thinking about Gayus’s case, which eventually carried him to this peak in his legal journey, I now believe that the law in Indonesia can be bought and sold.

Those with a lot of money can buy justice and whatever they like.  So when will Indonesia be a real  country, based on law?

Now the president will give a speech as to how justice has been served and everyone will forget about the companies that bribed Gayus. Life returns to normal.
