Despite the increasing prices of ingredients, producers of local
herbal drink or jamu were optimistic
that their sales will increase to between Rp 11 trillion (US$1.2 billion) and
Rp 12 trillion this year from Rp 10 trillion last year.
Charles Saerang, the Jamu
Producer Association chairman, said jamu
firms had diversified their products to various kinds of food and beverages
such as candies.
“The use of jamu
for medical treatment also rises,” he said as quoted by kontan.co.id on
Tuesday.
He admitted the biggest challenge to meet this year target
would be dealing with the increasing prices of ingredients such as ginger and kencur or kaempferia galangal.
Charles said the prices of ginger and kencur had risen by
300 to 400 percent.
“The jamu
producers may raise their prices,” he said.
