JAKARTA: The National Police on Tuesday organized a closed-door ethics
hearing for graft suspect Adj. Comr. Sri Sumartini, who is accused of
involvement in the case of graft convict Gayus H. Tambunan.
The hearing, which was closed to the media, began at 10 a.m. at National
Police headquarters in Jakarta and was presided over by Brig. Gen.
Yotje Mende, and reportedly heard testimony by Brig. Gen. Edmond Ilyas.
Sumartini and fellow officer Comr. Arafat Enanie allegedly accepted
US$50,000 bribes from Gayus, who asked that they not seize his house in
Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, as evidence in a tax evasion case.
In October, the South Jakarta District Court sentenced Sumartini to two years in prison for accepting the bribes. —JP
