Golkar leaders disagree on tax crime inquiry proposal

A- A A+

Golkar Party leaders shared different views on the tax crime inquiry proposal issue.

Golkar faction head Setya Novanto expected his party colleagues to stop supporting the initiative, while Deputy Speaker Priyo Budi Santoso acknowledged that the party had no right to prevent members from signing the proposal.

“We have to honor our commitment with the Democratic Party. Thus, if they have shown their disagreement with this, then we should honor that by ceasing support,” Setya said.

He also acknowledged that the Golkar legislators who signed the proposal had yet to coordinate with party officials. Setya said so far party leaders merely agreed to discuss the possibility of enacting the working committee on tax crime and not the special committee on tax crime inquiry.

On the other hand, Deputy Speaker Priyo Budi Santoso said faction leaders currently had no right to prevent members from signing the proposal. He said it was the right of the member whether he or she wanted to sign the proposal or not.

“There will be a time for us party leaders to discuss this particular issue. That is when the proposal reaches the House leaders’ desks,” he said.

Thus, he said he would welcome any support from any Golkar legislator for the recent attempt to initiate the tax crime inquiry special committee.
