Ministry says he has approved the release of Artalyta “Ayin” Suryani, the convicted briber who is allegedly enjoying a “luxurious” prison cell.

Director General for Correctional Institutions Untung Sugiono said on Thursday that he has signed Ayin’s official release approval letter, clearing the way for the businesswoman’s imminent release.

“Yes, I signed the letter [on Thursday] and sent it to the head of the Tangerang Women's Penitentiary,” Untung said Thursday at his office.

A copy of the letter was forwarded to Law and Human Rights Minister Patrialis Akbar, he said.

Untung said Ayin could not be released on Thursday due to the administrative requirements of her parole.

“She may be released on Friday or the day after, or anytime thereafter as soon as the procedure is done,” he said.

Ayin was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment in 2008 for bribing state prosecutor Urip Tri Gunawan, who had been leading a team investigating Bank Indonesia liquidity support (BLBI) cases implicating Artalyta’s alleged associate, tycoon Sjamsul Nursalim.
