New evidence ammunition for Antasari case review

A- A A+

Former Corruption Eradication Commission chairman and murder convict Antasari Azhar can file a case review if there is new evidence pointing to his innocence, the Attorney General’s Office said on Monday.

“Antasari must have the necessary material to file a case review,” Deputy Attorney General for Internal Monitoring Marwan Effendy said. “For example, if there is new evidence or another court decision that is contradictory [to Antasari’s court decision]. Those are the basis of a case review.”

The talk on Antasari’s case hit the spotlight once again after tax graft convict Gayus H. Tambunan said that a prosecutor knew “the truth” behind the high-profile case.
The National Human Rights Commission said that it planned to examine the case for indications of human rights violations.

Marwan added that the commission could inform Antasari on its findings but the authority to issue a case review remained in Antasari’s hands.
