More HIV/AIDS patients in Palu than recorded

PALU: The Sekat Foundation listed 151 cases of HIV/AIDS in Central Sulawesi, but the number of patients is believed to exceed the recorded data.

Of the number of cases Sekat reported, 17 have already died.

“From the total, Palu municipality contributes the highest number at 90 cases, which means 60 percent of the cases have taken place in Palu,” Riki BM Lahia, the foundation’s director, told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.

Siki said the actual number of cases in Palu could reach 9,000, with the assumption that, given the iceberg phenomenon, one patient might mean another 100. Palu has a population of 335,297. – JP
