Bandung will require all schools to offer extracurricular art activities and introduce art center visits to promote student awareness of culture
andung will require all schools to offer extracurricular art activities and introduce art center visits to promote student awareness of culture.
“If there is a case where a principal opposes this idea, please report it to me. I will reprimand the principal,” Bandung Education Agency chief Oji Mahroji said on Monday, as reported by kompas.com news portal.
Oji said schools should discuss any financial impediments to implementing the program with art center managers and local administrations.
“There are 6,000 schools [ranging] from kindergartens to high schools in Bandung. If a visit is carried out every day per school, then in two to three years the students will have a new experience in art,” he said.
Satria Yanuar Akbar, the director of business development and marketing for Saung Angklung Udjo welcomed the idea, saying that many students in Bandung had not learned about the angklung, a traditional Sundanese musical instrument.
