State-owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) said on Thursday it would invite businesspeople in gas-fuel industries to sit and talk to help solve an imminent gas shortage in the country.

PLN president director Dahlan Iskan said the businesspeople might be able to find better solutions for the shortage based on business calculations.

“We invite those who need gas to join PLN to discuss the best way to ensure sustainability in the supply of gas for our business,” said Dahlan as quoted by kompas.com.

He said, through the discussion with the businesspeople, PLN may be able to measure how much gas is needed by the industries.

“PLN has some plans, but if the private sector could join and support the plans, we could team up to make it work,” Dahlan added.

Those plans include the construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal to operate the Muara Tawar power plant in Bekasi, West Java, and the development of LNG mini-terminals in other regions across the country.
