Indonesia lacks female photographers: Art council

A- A A+

The relatively few number of female photographers in Indonesia calls for more events to open additional doors for women to be involved behind the lenses.

“There is a very small number of female photographers in the archipelago, thus it becomes our duty to increase that number in the future,” Mohammad Firman Ichsan from the Jakarta Art Council said Friday, as quoted by Antara.

He was speaking during the opening of a photography exhibition in Jakarta titled “Baduy, Ketika Perempuan Bercerita” (Baduy: When Women Tell the Story).

The exhibition displays the works of 10 female photographers, including Felicia Putri Wacana Mahakita, Pelangi Putriasti, and Novita Esmerald.
