Parepare administration in South Sulawesi plans to demolish buildings at Parepare Art Market, in efforts to eradicate prostitution activities that reportedly take place in the area.
Interim Parepare mayor H. Sjamsu Alam said residents had often complained that cafes operating in the area were associated with prostitution and alcoholic beverages.
“This clearly smears the religious image of Parepare municipality, which we have built up and maintained all this time,” he said.
Once the existing buildings are demolished, the administration plans to construct buildings that bring widespread benefits to the community.
