Bamus to handle tax graft inquiry committee proposal

Legislators’ proposal to form a tax graft inquiry committee will be reviewed by the House of Representatives steering committee (Bamus), Deputy House Speaker Priyo Budi Santoso says.

Bamus will schedule the next plenary session that would decide whether the proposal is granted, Priyo told a plenary session held at the House of Representatives in Jakarta on Wednesday.

“We have that mechanism within the steering committee. It is stipulated in the House code,” he said.

The formation of a committee to investigate the poor handling of the tax corruption case of convict and former tax official Gayus H. Tambunan was proposed by 114 legislators and three House leaders on Wednesday.

The biggest faction at the House, the Democratic Party, has refused to support the cause.
