The Bank Century inquiry committee at the House of Representatives is meeting with Arga Tirta Kirana, the former head of the bank’s legal corporate division.
A member of the committee, Bambang Soesatyo from the Golkar Party, said before Wednesday’s meeting that he hoped to have a new lead in the case.
“We hope to gain new information from this meeting. We will focus on Century’s disbursement of large amounts of money and the permit to do that [after the government’s bailout],” he added.
Arga is currently on trial for her alleged involvement in forging a document, used by a trading company owned by businessman-turned-politician Muhammad Misbakhun, to acquire credit from the bank.
The government’s decision to fund a Rp 6.76 trillion (US$716 million) bailout of Century in 2008 led to several corruption cases and politicking at the House of Representatives.
