A layer of thick smoke from forest fires across Riau blanketed the city of Dumai, Riau, on Friday morning.
The smog had reduced visibility, Dumai Environment Agency (KLH) chief Basri said Friday.
“We advise motorists to be careful when driving and to switch on their headlights to avoid accidents. The visibility is now below 1 kilometer,” he said, as quoted by kompas.com.
According to the Standard Index for Air Pollution (ISPU), the air quality in Dumai on Friday was between the medium index readings of 50 to 100, meaning the air had enough carbon monoxide, nitrogen and sulfur dioxide to irritate the eyes.
