Former Constitutional Court chief Jimly Asshiddiqie recommended former president Megawati Soekarnoputri comply with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK)’s summons for her to provide testimony to assist its investigation of the Bank Indonesia vote-buying scandal.
The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) chairwoman has refused to comply with the summons, saying there were “political interests” behind it.
“It is not mandatory, but as a leader, Ibu Mega should be present to provide a good example to the public,” Jimly said in Jakarta on Saturday, as quoted by tribunnews.com.
He said Megawati’s action to comply with the summons could change the public’s opinion about the scandal.
The anti-graft body summoned Megawati in relation to the alleged involvement of a number of PDI-P politicians in a bribery case surrounding the appointment of economist Miranda Goeltom as Bank Indonesia senior deputy governor.
