The Secretary General for the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Tjahjo Kumolo and Deputy Chair Trimedya Panjaitan arrived at the Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) office in Jakarta Monday morning, instead of the summoned Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri.

“Of course Bu Mega is not coming. She does not have any relevance in the case,” Tjahjo said, as quoted by Kompas.com.

The corruption watchdog organization has summoned Megawati to be the witness in an alleged bribery case surrounding the 2004 election of Miranda S Goeltom as the Deputy Senior Governor in the country’s central bank.

A number of politicians, including those from PDI-P, have been arrested by the KPK for allegedly receiving bribes in the form of traveler’s checks to ease Miranda’s way into the post.

Two of the PDI-P politicians: Max Moein and Poltak Sitorus, have reportedly asked for Megawati to become a witness to prove their innocence.
