The House of Representatives is scheduled to hold a plenary session on Monday from 10 a.m. to decide on whether go ahead with a proposed tax inquiry, an issue that has seen the different parties at the House deeply divided.
“The plenary session is expected to be protracted because the number of factions for and against the tax inquiry proposal is relatively similar,” House deputy speaker Anis Matta said Tuesday, as quoted by Antara.
Similar comments were made by House National Awakening Party chairman Marwan Jafar, who said the plenary session would likely be full of interruptions.
As of Monday evening, four parties had voiced support for the proposal. These parties were the Golkar Party, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and the People's Conscience Party (Hanura).
Three others — the Democratic Party, the National Mandate Party (PAN) and National Awakening Party (PKB) — remained against the proposal.
The Great Indonesian Movement Party (Gerindra) and United Development Party (PPP) have yet to take sides.
