Golkar names chairman as candidate

The the Golkar Party’s Jakarta chapter will nominate chairman Prya Ramadhani as a candidate in the 2012 gubernatorial election.

“We have decided to nominate Prya Ramadhani. He will be our only choice,” said the Golkar chairman of the Jakarta Council, Ashraf Ali.

Ashraf said Prya was picked because he was a well-known figure in Jakarta politics.

“Pak Prya does not have a bureaucratic background so he is quite popular here. He is also the kind of person who always listens to the people’s aspirations,” Ashraf said.

Ashraf continued to heap praise on Prya by saying that he was a reliable Golkar member. “He started his career in the party at the very bottom,” he added.

Ashraf said Prya would likely win approval from party national chairman Aburizal Bakrie.

The Democratic Party already nominated its Jakarta chapter chairman, Nachrowi Ramli, as a 2012 gubernatorial candidate. — JP
