A two-meter-deep flood that has lasted for more than 11 years in Cengkareng, West Jakarta not only has disrupted the lives of locals but also submerged a cemetery complex with hundreds of graves.
A local leader in the neighborhood, Djuhri, said water has submerged almost half of the four-hectare neighborhood, including a local cemetery.
“There’s nothing left. The cemetery is the burial ground for our ancestors,” Djuhri said as quoted by BeritaJakarta.com.
Djuhri said locals complaied to government officials but without response. — JP
