KPK deputy agreed to testify, says Panda

Legislator and graft bribery suspect Panda Nababan said he may gain supporting testimonies from a deputy of the Corruption Eradication Commission(KPK), the institution that arrested him in the bribery case.

“The investigators told me Pak Chandra had agreed to be questioned as a witness on Thursday,” Panda said Tuesday, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

Panda was referring to Chandra M Hamzah, one of the deputies in KPK.

Panda is accused of receiving bribes to ease economist Miranda Goeltom’s way to claim the post of Bank Indonesia’s senior deputy governor in 2004.

According to Panda, suspicion was raised against him because he, along with several other politicians from his party, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), had met Miranda before she underwent the fit-and-proper test at the House of Representatives.

However, such meetings were commonplace, Panda said, adding that even Chandra and another KPK deputy, Bibit Samad Riyanto, had met him before they underwent their fit-and-proper tests.

BIbit, however, has yet to provide an answer because he is currently out of town, Panda said.
