Candidate ticket Airin Rachmi Diany and Benjamin Davnie have secured the top governmental positions in South Tangerang municipality after winning an election re-run.
The South Tangerang Election Commission announced Thursday that Airin-Benjamin had won 241,797 votes, defeating their closest rivals Arsid and Andre Taulany, who had 198,660 votes.
Airin-Benjamin prevailed in six districts – North Serpong, Pondok Aren, Ciputat, East Ciputat, Pamulang and Setu. Arsid-Andre won only Serpong.
Commission head Iman Perwira Bachsan said the re-run had seen 4 percent more eligible voters cast ballots compared to the election last year.
The first election, held late last year, was won by Airin-Benjamin, but the Constitutional Court ordered a re-run after the campaign team for the winning pair was proven guilty of vote rigging, as claimed by Arsyid and Andre.
