Private buses running along Corridor 9 at night

JAKARTA: Two private bus operators have begun providing late night rides for routes intersecting with the TransJakarta Busway’s Corridor 9, the city’s Transportation Agency said Wednesday.

Agency head Udar Pristono said 136 buses operated by Mayasari Bakti and PPD would serve nine routes until midnight.

Mayasari Bakti’s and PPD’s licenses to ply the nine routes had been revoked by the city government because they intersected with Corridor 9, which connects Pinang Ranti in East Jakarta and Pluit in North Jakarta.

Calls have been mounting for the city to provide late night services along the route because the TransJakarta stops operating at 10 p.m.

The city, however, had been ignoring the calls, saying there were enough regular public buses to serve passengers at night.

PPD operational director Jalarin Purba said Wednesday that the company was using buses from the scrapped routes to support their late night services.

Jalarin said PPD now runs 24 hours a day on its routes. — JP
