Prosecutors to respond to Susno's defense statement today

Prosecutors in the case of graft suspect and former National Police chief detective Comr. Gen. Susno Duadji are scheduled on Thursday to read their response to his defense statement that was read out last week at South Jakarta District Court.

Susno is accused of receiving gratituity while he was chief detective, and of embezzling some of the regional election security funds when he was West Java Police chief. 

In his defense statement, Susno's lawyers attempted to convince the judge that the cases were fabricated by former National Police chief Gen. Bambang Hendarso Danuri and his trusted aides, Deputy Comr. Gen. Makbul Padmanegara and Sjahril Djohan, tempointeraktif.com reported. 

Susno alleges that the gratuity case against him was fabricated in efforts to silence him, because he had lifted the lid on the high-profile tax and legal corruption case of former tax officer Gayus Tambunan.
