A panel of judges with the Supreme Court turned down an appeal filed by bribery convict Anggodo Widjojo and handed him a heavier sentence of 10 years in prison, rather than the previous four-year sentence issued by the lower court.
“We reject Anggodo Widjojo's appeal and double the sentence to 10 years in prison plus requiring him to serve another five months or pay a Rp 250 million (US$28,500) fine,” said the ad-hoc justice Krisna Harahap as quoted by tribunnews.com on Thursday.
Krisna said the judges discovered conspiracy in the case and that Anggodo had intentionally obstructed ongoing legal processes.
Besides Krisna, the members of the panel are Artijo Alkostar, MS Lumme, Surya Jaya and Abdul Latief.
Anggodo, a businessman, was found guilty on Tuesday of attempting to bribe Bibit Samad Rianto and Chandra M. Hamzah, deputy chairmen of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), to halt the corruption investigation into his fugitive brother Anggoro Widjojo.
