The Temanggung Education Agency in Central Java has refused to use controversial textbooks about President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as references for its students.
"We chose books on other figures, rather than risk causing problems later," Primary Education unit chief Sudianto said Wednesday, as quoted by tribunnews.com.
The books were withdrawn in Tegal, Central Java, after causing controversy, and prosecutors in Magelang, Central Java, are currently investigating whether their production was a misusage of special funds allocated for education (DAK).
The Education Ministry offers 2,400 books to students, of which 940 are to be chosen by agencies in the regions as references to supplement their education programs. Up to 11 of them are part of a biographical series on Yudhoyono's.
The tender to procure the books is scheduled for April.
