Lampung Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) announced Friday it had detained several people selling elephant tusks and leopard and tiger skins in the Bandar Lampung area.

The two sellers were arrested on Thursday night when they were about to conduct a transaction of products made with protected species.

Both sellers were from Lampung’s Kota Agung, Tanggamus Regency, next to the Bukit Barisan National Park.
The park is home to the endangered Sumatran tiger, among other rare and exotic animals.

The officers confiscated five tools made from elephant tusk, two whale bones, and 85 leopard and tiger skins.

“This [arrest] is part of our commitment to stopping the trade of protected species…” Supriyanto said Friday, as quoted by kompas.com.

The arrest was conducted in cooperation with the forest police and the Rhino Protection Unit. The skins, tusks and bones were reportedly going to be sold to a trader in Bandar Lampung. The items were planned to be used as good luck charms and collectibles.
