JAKARTA: The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding on preventing corruption in the business, trade, industry and service sectors together with the Attorney General’s Office and the National Police.

The MoU was signed by Kadin chairman Suryo Bambang Sulisto, Attorney General Basrief Arief and National Police chief Gen. Timur Pradopo. Suryo said corruption was one of the main problems hampering businesses in Indonesia apart from inefficient bureaucracy and poor infrastructure.

“As a medium of cooperation and communication for businesspeople, Kadin feels a concern and moral responsibility to take part in the corruption prevention effort, especially in the business world. This can only be achieved through cooperation with related law enforcement institutions,” he said after the signing.

“The MoU is expected to help improve the business climate and prevent illegal business practices.” — JP
