Hundreds of police personnels from the Central Jakarta Resort Police are taking guard at a cemetery complex in Cikini following a clash in the area.

“Tonight we place 600 of our men in the location to prevent another clash,” resort police chief Sr. Comr. Hamidin said on Monday as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

A clash erupted on Monday noon between a group of locals and a number of people from a real estate developer. The locals are from the side of those claiming to be the inheritors of the cemetery land. The two groups have disputed the ownership of the land.

Dozens of men from the two groups attacked each other using swords and stones, injuring five people.

“They are being treated in the Cikini hospital and in the RSCM (Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital),” Hamidin said.

Police have swept the area after the clash and seized discarded weapons.

“We have tried to mediate the two groups and asked them to refrain from [engaging in another clash],” he added.

The police have yet to name any suspect in the incident.
