Kemala
Putri is a rising star on Jakarta’s
fashion circuit, having modeled for such cool local brands as Nikicio
and Danjyo-Hiyoji. But even though her image adorns print ads and
billboards, don’t think of her as just another pretty face – this
is one model with personality. Kemala, who turns 25 in March, studied
design in visual communication at university and is now taking
pattern-making at Bunka Fashion College in Jakarta. And when she’s
not showing or making clothes, she’s playing the keyboard for the
band Santa Monica.
Showing off her wry take on the world – and herself – Kemala says she likes to cook and sew so she can be a good housewife … just like Bree Van de Kamp of the TV series Desperate Housewives.
My signature style …
I love to wear a comfy light oversized top.
Favorite designers …
Issey Miyake – origami on the body. He creates body sculptures, combining influences from East and West into a Gesamtkunstwerk!
I will never wear again?
Kitten heels. I think shoes with kitten heels look weird, ha ha.
My must-have fashion item …
A pair of killer heels would be nice!
My inspiration …
I get inspired by so many random things. I can wear an orange-magenta dress because of the sunset that I saw yesterday, or curl my hair after I have fusilli carbonara for lunch.
Ultimate fashion purchase …
Ah, this is the hardest question! All of my fashion items are my babies, I can’t pick just one of ’em.
My take on looking good …
It’s not about what you wear, it’s about the attitude you wear it with.
