JAKARTA: Motorcycle maker Astra Honda Motor (AHM), a subsidiary of Japan-based Honda Motor Co
AKARTA: Motorcycle maker Astra Honda Motor (AHM), a subsidiary of Japan-based Honda Motor Co., says it was operating normally after a recent tsunami and earthquake.
Executive vice president director Johannes Loman said production activities at the Indonesian plant would not be interrupted by the effects of the disaster as 90 percent of supplied parts were locally made.
“The production at the Honda plant here is relatively safe because most components are domestically produced,” he said in a written statement Friday.
Loman added that the Honda motorcycle plant in Japan was also not seriously affected by the disaster and only stopped operation between March 15 and 20.
Last year, AHM sold more than 3.4 million motorcycles in Indonesia, a 26.5 percent rise from 2.7 million in 2009. This placed AHM at the top of its market segment with 46 percent of the country’s motorcycle market. AHM has set a target to sell 4.1 million units this year out of the 8 million motorcycles estimated to be sold nationwide this year. — JP
