The Bali Police have confirmed that the two suspicious bags found at a handicrafts shop in Kuta, Bali, did not contain explosives.

North Kuta Police chief Adj. Comr. Nyoman Sukanada said Monday that the bags had belonged to American Craig David McClendon, an English teacher who lives in Denpasar.

Nyoman said McClendon lost the bags, which had been in his car, when he stopped at a convenience store in the Kerobokan area around 8 p.m. on Sunday.

“He stopped by a Circle K to buy a drink. He did not lock his car when he got out and his bags were stolen,” Nyoman said, as quoted by kompas.com.
The thief took a Canon camera and a Nokia cellular phone from McClendon’s bags.

The Bali Police’s bomb squad removed the bags from the handicrafts shop on Monday morning after an employee found the bags and became suspicious, informing the shop’s owner, Ketut Kartiyasa. Ketut reported the bags to the police at 9 a.m.

The bomb squad arrived at the shop at 10 a.m. and immediately took the bags to the Mobile Police Brigade headquarters.
