The Banten Election Commision (KPU Banten) has determined a number of election phases for the Banten gubernatorial election in a plenary held at the commissioners’  office in Banten's capital Serang.

The plenary has decided that Banten residents will cast votes at polling stations for the new governor on October 22.

“We do hope that the gubernatorial election is a smooth and peaceful process,” KPU Banten chairman Hambali said on Wednesday.

Hambali added that KPU Banten would form district election committees between May 10 and 25 and train officers to upgrade voter data.

Local election committees will upgrade data on eligible voters between June 27 and July 26.

Registration for governor hopefuls will be announced between June 1 and 5 while registration for candidate governor and deputy governor pairs will open from July 8 to 14.

“We will announce the candidate pairs who fulfill the requirements to run in the election on August 24,” he said.

In response to the upcoming election preparation, Upriyadi Mouslehk of Commission I overseeing elections at the Banten Legislative Council, said he hoped that the commissioners could perform well.

“Commissioners must be able to function and conduct their tasks in line with the prevailing laws. They must be neutral. We don’t want any problems during the election process,” he said.
