A politician from the Democratic Party says that incumbent Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo could still potentially run in the upcoming election for governor.
“[Fauzi Bowo’s] name is still in. There are currently two names that are being forwarded, Nachrowi and the incumbent. Those two names are being looked at,” Democratic Party deputy chair Ahmad Mubarok said Thursday, as quoted by kompas.com.
Ahmad was referring to Nachrowi Ramli, a retired officer who is the chair of the party's Jakarta chapter.
Mubarok said that the party would conduct three surveys to compare the two candidates' popularity, capability and electability. The results of the surveys will be forwarded to the party's high assembly who will then choose the official Democratic Party candidate.
Mubarok said Fauzi's candidacy need not be widely publicized.
“He is one of the candidates, but Fauzi Bowo is still holding the post. So he is keeping a low profile. And he doesn't need advertising because people are already familiar with him, unlike Nachrowi,” Mubarok said.
Mubarok said the party was still considering Fauzi because he was considered to have the skills and knowledge to lead the city.
“But he hasn't got the type of firmness Bang Yos has. Well, maybe Nachrowi has this kind of firmness because they are both from the military,” he said.
Mubarok was referring to Sutiyoso, the retired military officer who served as Jakarta governor from 1997 to 2007.
