MRT is Jakarta’s best bet: Public Works Ministry

In general, building flyovers doesn’t solve traffic
problems, but leads more people to buy cars, Public Works Minister Djoko
Kirmanto says.
“Flyovers only ease traffic a little,” Djoko said Thursday
as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Djoko said the most effective way to minimize
traffic in Jakarta would be through the construction of mass rapid
transportation system.
He argued that a good mass rapid transportation
system would make people less likely to want to buy cars.
Jakarta currently has two flyovers under
construction. One from Antasari to Blok M, and the other from Kampung Melayu to
Tanah Abang.
