Banten will hold gubernatorial election

TANGERANG: The General Elections Commission (KPUD) of Banten province decided in a plenary meeting that residents could vote for candidates in a gubernatorial election on Oct. 22.

Hambali, the head of the Banten KPUD, said on Wednesday that voter registration at the subdistrict level will likely be between May 10 and 25.

As for gubernatorial candidates, Hambali said they could register themselves between July 8 and 14. “We will announce tickets eligible to contest the election on Aug. 24,” he said.

Councillor Upriyadi Mouslekh, of Commission I overseeing elections, believed the KPUD could maintain neutrality during the poll.

“They must stay neutral. We don’t want any problems during the election stages,” he said. — JP
