Two convicts who fled South Sulawesi after their acquittals were overturned were arrested by Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators in separate locations in Jakarta on Saturda
KPK investigator Sr. Comr. Heru Sumartono said that the arrests were made after a routine check-in with the South Sulawesi Prosecutor's Office.
“[The KPK] asked the South Sulawesi prosecutor's office about the progress of the graft case as part of our supervisory duty,” Heru said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
The prosecutor's office told the KPK that they could not locate the fugitives, Koesprawoto, former South Sulawesi Telkom branch head, and Eddy Sarwono, the branch’s former deputy head, and asked for the antigraft body’s assistance.
"We found Koesprawoto in a rented house in Setiabudi, South Jakarta, while we located Eddy Sarwono in Gondangdia, Menteng, Central Jakarta,” Heru said.
KPK spokesman Johan Budi SP said that the pair did not resist arrest.
Koesprawoto and Eddy Sarwono were initially acquitted of corruption charges by the Makassar District Court in 2008 in connection with a telecommunications procurement project that led to Rp 44.6 billion (US$5.13 million) in state losses.
The pair were found guilty on appeal by the Supreme Court and sentenced to six years’ imprisonment and to pay a Rp 500 million fine and Rp 30 billion in compensation.
