West Papua’s Raja Ampat, well-known among divers for its underwater beauty, joined hands on Friday with Makassar’s Hasanuddin University to develop basic infrastructure at the dive site.
Raja Ampat regent Maskur Wanma and Hasanuddin University rector Idrus Paturusi signed a memorandum of understanding on the new partnership at the university's campus in Makassar on Friday.
The partnership is slated to last for five years and comprises two major sectors: education and the environment.
In the field of education, the two institutions will partner in developing Raja Ampat’s consultation services, advocacy and science and technology research, among others.
With the environment, the partnership will work on the monitoring of environmental conditions and analysis of the impact of infrastructure development on the area.
“Raja Ampat is a new regency, To develop this region we must prioritize the development of basic infrastructure, particularly education, health and the economy,” Maskur said after the MoU signing.
