House summons minister to inquire about RI’s stance on Libya

The House of Representatives has summoned Foreign Affairs Minister Marty Natalegawa to ask for clarification of the government’s stance on the political crises in the Middle East, especially in Libya.

Hidayat Nur Wahid, a member of House Commission I overseeing defense, foreign affairs and information, said on Sunday that the commission will meet with government representatives and the minister on Monday.

Hidayat said that, as a sovereign nation, Indonesia deserves the right to urge the United Nations to hold a plenary to evaluate the implementation of a UN resolution proposed by the US and a number of its allies.

“The [UN] resolution has been slanted and misused by the US, France and the UK to attack Libya,” he said as quoted by kompas.com.

The United Nations Security Council recently issued a resolution approving foreign attacks on Libya.
