Jakmania, the supporters club for the Persija Jakarta soccer team, is demanding that the city halt plans to demolish Lebak Bulus stadium.
The administration promised to build a new stadium to replace Lebak Bulus, which it would demolish in favor of a depot for the city’s proposed Mass Rapid Transportation (MRT) system.
“There has not been any clarity on where [the new stadium] will be built and what it would look like. Lebak Bulus stadium should not be torn down yet,” akmania chairman Larico Rangga Mone said.
Plans for a replacement stadium in Cilandak, East Jakarta continued to face problems, including land ownership problems, Larico said.
“Don't let the soccer lovers of Jakarta lose another stadium without any guarantee of a replacement,” he said, as reported by kompas.com.
Menteng Stadium in Central Jakarta was previously destroyed to make space for Menteng Park, one of the city’s few green spaces.
