Sports minister acted appropriately: President
The President said on Thursday that the Youth and Sports Affairs Ministry had acted appropriately in denouncing the leadership of the National Soccer Association (PSSI) under its chairman Nurdin Halid and secretary-general Nugraha Besoes.
“Of course this problem should not be protracted. I wish there will be the right solution. I think the measures were taken by the government, the KONI [National Sports Committee], the KOI [National Olympics Committee], simply to save our soccer, fulfill the people's wish and provide a solution to the debacle,” President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
Yudhoyono was speaking in an interview with Radio Elshinta at the State Palace on Thursday.
Youth and Sports Affairs Minister Andi Mallarangeng had previously announced that the government would no longer acknowledge the PSSI leadership under Nurdin and Nugraha following a deranged congress in Pekanbaru, Riau, last week.
Yudhoyono said everything should be in line with the FIFA statutes, the country's law and the structure of KONI, KOI and PSSI managements.
“Comply with all that and everything would be accountable. No manipulation A or manipulation B that confuses our people,” he added.
He urged the ministry, KONI, KOI and PSSI to immediately find a solution to the problem by listening to the people.
“After that, immediately form a new management that is supported by the people, one that is dedicated, professional and high-spirited in improving our soccer,” Yudhoyono said.
