The police have revised the amount of money Citibank embezzlement suspect Inong Melinda siphoned from customer accounts from Rp 17 billion (US$1.95 million) to Rp 20 billion.

“For the time being, it’s Rp 20 billion,” National Police chief detective Comr. Gen. Ito Sumardi said Friday, adding that he suspected the amount could increase further.

Ito said in order to assist the police with their investigation, Citibank customers are urged to examine their transactions for possible tampering and to immediately report any suspicious inconsistencies to police.

As to the number of suspects, Ito said, “We are still studying the case, identifying who are responsible at the managerial level.”

So far, one other Citibank employee has been named a suspect together with Inong, who was a manager at the bank.
