Tax mafia defendant Gayus Halomoan Tambunan bribed Comr. Iwan Siswanto, chief of the Mobile Brigade Headquarters’ detention center in Kelapa Dua, Depok, to leave the center during his detention, and tipped eight guards for escorting him in and out the center, prosecutors said at the Bandung District Court on Friday.

In their indictment, prosecutors said that Gayus had spent Rp 264 million on bribing Iwan alone.

Prosecutor Sila Pulungan said that Gayus gave Rp 4.6 million to First Brig. Bagus Ari Setya Nugraha, and Rp 4 million each to Second Brig. Datu Arundika, First Brig. Budi Heriyanto and Second Brig. Anggoco Duto.

“Second Brig. Bambang Setyawan received Rp 3 million, Second Brig. Junjungan Fortes Purba got Rp 1.5 million, while Second Brig. Susilo got Rp 1.5 million,” said Sila as quoted by kompas.com.

Iwan reportedly instructed the eight officers to take turns in escorting Gayus to certain locations on their motorcycles or in a car organized by Gayus.

Gayus was spotted by media watching an international tennis match in Bali while he was supposed to be behind bars.

An ensuing investigation also found that Gayus had traveled abroad to Singapore, Malaysia and Macau on separate occasions using a falsified passport in the name of Sony Laksono.
