Peter Sie passes away

Senior Indonesian designer and fashion pioneer Peter Sie passed away on Friday morning at 5 a.m. at the age of 82.

Peter’s passing was confirmed by curator Amir Sidharta through his Twitter account, @senirupa.

“[Peter's remains] will be taken to Cikini Hospital for [viewing]. More info about his burial will follow,” Amir said.

Peter Sie whose Chinese name was Sie Tiam, was born in Bogor, West Java on Dec. 28, 1929. He studied at Vakschool Voor Kleermaker & Coupeuse in The Hague, The Netherlands from 1947 to 1953.

Peter is known as one of the pioneers of Indonesian fashion. He retired at the end of the 1980s, but in 2001 held an exhibition featuring his old collection while launching his autobiography.
