In answer to the high public demand, the Jakarta Transportation Agency is contemplating launching late night service for Corridor I TransJakarta buses. Corridor I begins in Blok M in South Jakarta and stretches to the Kota area in West Jakarta.
“We’re currently studying late night service at Corridor I,” agency head Udar Pristono said on Tuesday, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
The plan, if realized, would see TransJakarta buses at the corridor operating until 11 p.m. daily.
Udar said Corridor I has the highest number of passengers during regular hours, totaling around 80,000 a day. The huge number, Udar said, means many passengers will need a late night service.
“The agency is currently studying the possible benefits and losses,” he added.
Late night service is currently available at Corridor IX (Pinang Ranti-Pluit) with 12 buses operating after hours.
Udar said the service was quite popular, especially among workers. “The number of passengers can reach 700 to 1,250 every night,” he said, adding that in regular hours some 45,000 passengers use the corridor.
